Me again, I just wanted to show you what I have been working on over the last couple of days. As you know my parents are celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary in July and my Mum had said that she would like me to make the bombonieres. For those that have never heard of these it is the italian word for favours. I had to make 50 of them for each lady that is attending.
Hope you've enjoyed looking.
I have a lot of friends who are Italian and so do my parents, and we have known about this tradition for as long as I can remember. In fact we have been using them at various weddngs, engagements, holy communions over the last 30 years but they weren't really heard or used by English people much then.
The tradition is that 5 almonds are used with white being used for weddings, green for engagements and pink/blue for babies. The 5 almonds represent Health, Wealth, Happiness, Long Life and Fertility.

Over the last couple of years they have started to become the norm now at most weddings and are now called favours. I still do, and don't think, I will ever think of them as anything other than bombonieres though.
Here are a selection of some others I have made previously, the Blue ones being what I did for my Stepson and Daughter-in-Law's wedding 2 years ago.
Hope you've enjoyed looking.
Oh Max I've been waiting to see these since you posted the invites! Well theywere worth waiting to see they are stunning! You are so creative!

ReplyDeletewow max they arelovely, my fav has to be the one that looks like a flower with almonds standing up xxxx
ReplyDeleteMax I think they are truly beautiful and look so effective when they are all together. I was looking at the other favours you have done and the designs that you have done with the individually wrapped almonds are beautiful. If it is not too much of a problem could you tell me how you do these? What a busy lady you have been.
ReplyDeleteThese are just stunning Max, I particularly love the ones with the individual wraps that look like lilies. Fantastic.
